Install the Chrome Extension

The Lama Chrome extension connects your browser to the desktop app for AI-powered testing.

Prerequisites

Important: You must open the Lama desktop app at least once before installing the extension. The app creates the extension folder on first launch.

Installation Steps

1

Open Chrome Extensions

Navigate to chrome://extensions in your Chrome browser.

2

Enable Developer Mode

Toggle the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of the page.

3

Load Unpacked Extension

Click the Load unpacked button that appears. A file picker will open — paste the extension path below to navigate directly to it.

Tip: On Mac, press Cmd + Shift + G in the file picker to open the "Go to folder" dialog, then paste the path. On Windows, paste the path directly into the address bar at the top of the file picker.

macOS:

~/Library/Application Support/Lama/extension

Windows:

%APPDATA%\Lama\extension
4

Verify Installation

The Lama extension icon should appear in your Chrome toolbar. Click it on any tab to open the side panel and start controlling that page.

FAQ

Why Developer Mode?

The extension is bundled with the desktop app instead of the Chrome Web Store. Chrome requires Developer Mode to load extensions from a local folder. This is safe and gives you automatic updates through the desktop app.

Will it auto-update?

Yes. When the desktop app updates, it automatically updates the extension files and triggers a reload. No manual steps needed after the initial setup.

Chrome shows a warning about Developer Mode extensions

Chrome may periodically show a banner about extensions running in Developer Mode. This is normal for locally-loaded extensions. You can safely dismiss it.
